Cavnic mine is the most famous mine in the whole Cavnic mining district and is type locality to Rhodochrosite amongst it other thirty-five recorded mineral species.  This specimen is a delightful miniature composed entirely of uniformly coral pink Rhodochrosite as intermeshed curved blades of typically 0.5 to 1 cm across.  These pile up to form gently undulating mounds across the specimen’s display surface and show no sign of any damage or even bruising.  Careful inspection reveals just one tiny sphere of white Calcite sat towards one edge and of about 1.5 mm diameter.
