The Falun mine is one of those rather unusual localities situated smack in the middle of a town or city, in this case, Falun, approximately 200 km northwest of Stockholm.  This mine lies in the Bergslagen mining district of Sweden and was a copper producing open pit with minor amounts of Native Gold.  Numerous rich flecks and several nodules of Native Gold to a few millimetres are reasonably well distributed throughout a grey quartzite matrix, speckled off-white with Quartz streaks aligned to the direction of foliation.  The Native Gold probably has a copper content, given the mineralogy of the mine and its rich warm colour.  The colour of Native Gold is always difficult to describe, but in this case, brassy gold seems appropriate.  A great specimen from this rare locality and accompanied with an old Besch. v. Stelz, Bockenheim label.
