A captivating miniature of crystallised mauve to Royal purple Strengite from the Kreuzberg, or Rose quartz cliff, now in the centre of the town of Pleystein in the Upper Palatinate of Bavaria, Germany. This Quartz cliff is the remaining core of an eroded phosphate pegmatite. Strengite is a hydrated iron phosphate and in this specimen large lozenge-shaped translucent crystals to at least 8 mm are embedded within a dark greenish-black pegmatite matrix. The Strengite crystals have a matt, frosted lustre, just occasionally glassy, which look at first glance to be possibly richly coloured amethyst. All crystals are rich Royal purple with a tinge of warm mauve. This is a specimen of great beauty, a delightfully coloured Strengite with a distinct and large crystal habit from the Kreuzberg. The miniature is accompanied with a fine old German label.
