A remarkably crystallised large miniature of arborescent Calcite crystals form a delightfully aesthetic specimen from Alte Elisabeth-Schacht, a part of the Himmelfahrt mine at Freiberg in Saxony, Germany.  The Alte Elisabeth-Schacht mine is tourist mine occupying a section of the now abandoned Himmelfahrt mine.  The specimen is formed from slender plumes of branching, arborescent snow-white translucent Calcite which grades to transparent tips.  There is no matrix and the intertwined plumes form a structure of open voids which appear delicate yet are robust (providing you don’t drop it).  As far as Calcite habits go, this is something unusual and splendid.
