A slab of Quartz veinstone, the upper surface of which is covered in small, light siskin-lime green, specular crystals of Pyromorphite. Some of the Quartz is pseudomorphing after Baryte and is associated with black manganese oxides. The Pyromorphite crystals measure up to 5 mm long and form an all-enveloping crust over the upper surface of the matrix. The original label does not accompany the specimen but having been through the hands (and private collections) of two very eminent and highly knowledgeable collectors, it can be confidently labelled as from Roughton Gill in the Caldbeck Fells of Cumbria, England. All the Pyromorphite crystals have the habit of a conical tapering spire, pointed at the end, or displaying a tiny pinacoid of concentric colours, deeper green in the centre with a lime green rim. A beautifully aesthetic Pyromorphite from Roughton Gill.
