This simply delightful blue and yellow zoned Fluorite crystal is from Jakub’s Pocket, discovered during mid-summer in 2021 at the Lady Annabella mine near Eastgate in Weardale, County Durham, England. Discovered by Jakub Sauermann during specimen recovery operations, this was a small pocket, about the size of a soccer ball. For those unfamiliar with a soccer ball, myself included, I am told they are about 22 cm in diameter (8.7 inches), so a pretty small pocket! Although broken-off across its base, this miniature interpenetrant twin is dominated by a elongated cubic crystal, measuring 3.5 x 3.1 x 2.4 cm, yet please note the 3.5 cm measurement is along one edge only. The crystals are almost perfectly gemmy throughout and display a thin outer zone of delicate cornflower-sky blue with an inner body of lemon yellow, in some lights appearing rich golden yellow. Under LWUV the outer edges fluoresce bright lavender blue and the prism faces, a deeper purple. It’s a magnificent specimen from this new and tiny pocket.
