Fluorite found in the Milky Way Pocket at Diana Maria mine is always very dark in colour, be this dark purple or dark green, this specimen is the latter. The portals to Diana Maria mine are situated within the old Rogerley quarry, just west of the village of Frosterley in Weardale, County Durham, England. Specimens from this pocket also contain zones of opaque white frosting, the contrast of which against the dark Fluorite appears like the bright starlit swath of our galaxy, the Milky Way. This cabinet specimen displays an outer ring of cubic Fluorite crystals averaging 1.5 to 2 cm on edge although one measures 3.1 cm. These sit on a bed of colourless-milky Quartz crystals, all well terminated, with composite layered prism faces and a bright glassy lustre. Under LWUV the Fluorite brightly fluoresces violet lavender around the prism edges and Royal purple across the faces. The contrast of this against the non-fluorescent Quartz is superb.
