One of the many joys of mineralogy is, should you ever think you have witnessed every possible variant of a certain species, something inevitably comes along shatter this belief! I have to say, for $200 this is the most beautiful and remarkable Arsenopyrite you could imagine, a small cabinet specimen from Yaogangxian mine in Yizhang County, Hunan Province, China. Forming an unusual structure of two broad crystallised tabular plates and a towering scalenohedral-like structure, the Arsenopyrite forms stepped, rooftile-like platelets over the structural surfaces, all to delightful aesthetic effect.
