A rich example of the cobalt arsenide Skutterudite from the Schneeberg mining district in Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany. An elongated arched Quartz rib, itself a section of a mineralised Quartz vein, has one side pervaded with matt, light grey Skutterudite crystals, the largest measuring to 1 cm across. Some of these are tinged pale pink by a light dusting of Erythrite (cobalt bloom) and partly spherical, light peppermint micro-granules. The underside of the specimen is coated with a drusy layer of off-creamy white to dark tan micro-crystals of Quartz. This small cabinet specimen is accompanied by a somewhat fragile old label in copperplate handwriting.
