Greenlaws mine is situated about 1 km south of St John’s Chapel and adjacent Daddry Shield, both hamlets or small villages on the A689 road which runs long the full length of the Weardale Valley.  This mine has always produced very fine specimens of Fluorite and this is a lovely example of blackberry purple cubic crystals which grade to creamy-white frosted centres.  Cubes average 1.5 cm on edge but do attain 3.4 cm.  Sitting on an ironstone matrix, the Fluorite forms a dome of razor-sharp edged crystals with a bright glassy lustre, which under LWUV fluoresce intense bright bluish-purple.  An excellent cabinet Fluorite from Greenlaws mine.
