This pocket was named for Jakub Sauermann, a member of the UK Mining Ventures’ specimen recovery team, who discovered this football-sized pocket in The Bull Vein in September 2021. It contained exquisite rich yellow Fluorite crystals, some colour-zoned, alternating between golden-amber and lemon-yellow, edged delicate pale sky blue. This particular specimen is a superb miniature of an ex-matric interpenetrant twin whose longest crystal measures 3.3 cm. The prisms are gemmy with occasional cloudy zones and draped wisps within the crystal structure. The Fluorite is a pale acid lemon yellow with lavender outer faces, the colour intensifying along the edges and at the corners. Look carefully and several nested internal colour-zoned bands of delicate blue and purple descend towards the centre, parallel to the faces. This is a terrific example of Fluorite from Jakub’s Pocket and a delightful example of the many colours this famous quarry has to offer.
