Fluorite with Galena
ID:
CC31927
A superb large miniature of forest green Fluorite crystals on naturally etched, pitted silver grey Galena crystals from The Hidden Forest Pocket in Diana Maria mine near the village of Frosterley in Weardale, County Durham, England. The Fluorite forms interpenetrant twinned crystals of both cubic and cuboid (elongated cubes) habit, the largest of the latter 2 cm on its longest edge. The crystals are gemmy and of a beautifully aesthetic leafy emerald green or forest green. These display mild daylight fluorescence and under LWUV bright purple-white fluorescence. The Hidden Forest Pocket was discovered and mined in summer 2021. It lies at the intersection of the Sutcliffe and Greenbank veins, a zone of more complex and varied mineralogy due to co-mingling of the two different hydrothermal solutions. The underlying matrix is a dark grey-brown ironstone.
