Fluorite with Calcite

Perhaps the most famous of all Weardale Fluorite localities is Height’s mine just north of Westgate, a locality normally associated with magnificent green Fluorite.  Other colours are occasionally found here and this lovely cabinet specimen is a great example of purple containing excellent zoning.  This specimen is part of a large cubic crystal whose maximum dimension is 6.5 cm.  An almost botryoidal mass of snow white Calcite with natural partial etching sits over one corner.  Under LWUV the Fluorite fluoresces bright lavender-purple and, more surprisingly, the Calcite bright lemon yellow!  Quite a remarkable specimen from Height’s mine in Weardale, County Durham, England.
