A compact large miniature packed with large black Spinel and green Diopside crystals, cemented by a minor matrix of salmon pink Calcite. This rather pleasing specimen is from the Gon phlogopite deposit at Aldan in the Sakha Republic of Russia. The Spinel forms several well formed complex crystals with multiple faces, the two largest measuring 3.2 cm in diameter. Likewise, the epidote forms several thick and chunky crystals of intense deep forest green, the largest of these approximately 3.6 x 2.0 x 1.5 cm. Almost every crystal carries a little damage or bruising, most likely contact damage when in-situ. It’s a terrific example from far eastern Russia.
