Chalcopyrite and Pyrite on Quartz
ID:
CC32119
This Chalcopyrite and Pyrite on Quartz is a super-showy small cabinet specimen from the mines around Baia Sprie in Maramureș County, Romania, an area of spectacular and beautiful landscapes. Colourless, gemmy slender Quartz crystals entirely cover a solid matrix of massive Quartz. The vast majority of the Quartz crystals adopt an acicular habit, although at least two at the back are much chunkier (to use a technical term); the squatter measuring 3 x 1.3 x 1.2 cm. Piled over all the Quartz crystals are various sized Chalcopyrite crystals up to 1.5 cm wide; all with a breath-taking patina of burnished brassy-gold with flashes of brilliant peacock metallic mauve and purple. There are also many small cubic crystals of buttery golden Pyrite whose presence is over shadowed by the strikingly coloured (and sized) Chalcopyrite. Should we just say the Chalcopyrite hogs the limelight! A spectacular specimen and very fairly priced at $300.
