Fluorite

Large, composite cubes of deep blackberry purple Fluorite crystals form a compact small cabinet specimen from Melchor Múzquiz in Coahuila, Mexico. The largest cube measures 5 cm on edge while the smallest measures 3 cm. The outward pointing faces are built form interlocking stepped crystal faces with a pixelated mosaic structure. The intergrown cubes are generally opaque dark purple, almost black, but around the edges, where the Fluorite is thinner, light is able to penetrate, producing a lovely deep lilac translucency.
