This small cabinet specimen packs a lot of punch for its size, richly encrusted and containing many rich magenta to bubble gum pink Grossular Garnet crystals of up to 1.8 cm across.  In order to protect the locality, the location was originally given as Lake Jaco, Mexico; indeed, Lake Jaco could be seen from the garnet mine, but in the very far distance!  Hence this incorrect name remains with many of these rare pink garnet specimens to this day.  The Grossular forms well defined, equant dodecahedral crystals whose colour varies accordingly with size.  The largest crystals are deep magenta while the smallest (a few millimetres) are bright bubble gum pink.  All have a bright glassy lustre and are set in a light grey to white massive Quartz matrix.
