I don’t ever recall us having one of these highly prized groups of Quartz crystals from Mooralla ever before, this locality being located in Southern Grampians Shire of Victoria, Australia.  The locality was discovered in the 1960s where individual crystals, plates and geodes could be dug out from just below the surface.  After decades of digging, many holes now go as deep as 6 metres.  This is one of the rarer examples displaying smoky Quartz crystals of up to 2 cm long, all sitting on a thin plate of opaque milky Quartz encrusted with a druse of micro-crystals of pale Amethystine Quartz.  The smoky Quartz forms as single, double terminated and sceptre crystals.  A splendid small cabinet specimen from Mooralla in south western Victoria.
