Cave-in-Rock is synonymous with fabulous Fluorite.  This particular small cabinet specimen is from Minerva No. 1 mine, a former zinc and fluorspar mine.  Although Fluorspar is an old name for Fluorite, Fluorite mined for industrial purpose still tends to be termed Fluorspar.  This gorgeous part cube displays one corner of what one presumes was a much larger crystal, although a rich coating of white Dolomite over much of the cleaved base demonstrates natural processes have caused any past breakage.  The Fluorite measures 5.7, 4.5 and 4 cm along each of the remaining axes and is a translucent to semi-transparent rich sky blue.  The edges and certain zones appear to be tinted pale lilac and pale mauve, although this seems to disappear when examined close-too!  A beautiful small cabinet Fluorite with Baryte from Illinois.
