Grossular Garnet

ID: CC32389
Mali is a large country, the eight largest in Africa. It’s a country we rarely see mineral specimens from, so if you are unfamiliar, it is situated in West Africa and is land-locked north of the Ivory Coast and east of Guinea. This rather gorgeous and mouth-watering miniature Grossular Garnet is from the Kayes Region, in the far west of the country. Although a miniature, there is nothing miniature about the Grossular crystals, the largest measuring just over 3 cm! Several beautifully developed translucent crystals form a most aesthetic intergrown cluster with an arresting, brilliant glassy lustre. The crystals are patchy mixtures of mottled, zesty apple, limey yellow and lime green Grossular with sharply defined edges and mirror-like faces. It’s fabulous!
