Delicate cornflower blue cubic crystals of gemmy Fluorite completely line a shallow 5 x 2 cm cavity in a matrix of massive earthy grey-red Hematite, from Florence mine by the town of Egremont in west Cumbria.  The first shaft was sunk in 1914 and the mine produced Hematite through to its closure in October 1980.  This is a fine miniature of blue Fluorite, so characteristic of Florence.
