Baryte with Pyrite on Calcite

Without any doubt, a characteristic specimen from the Egremont iron mines in west Cumbria, yet also an atypical combination of species, so forming a rather unusual small cabinet specimen. Tabular, semi-translucent to opaque rhombic blades of cream to tan Baryte protrude from a more massive Baryte core. All intervening areas are infilled with much smaller, double terminated nail-head Calcite crystals and sparkling druses of golden micro-crystallised Pyrite. All the Calcite crystals grade from milky white at one end to brick red, Hematite-included opposite ends.
