The iron-manganese-magnesium phosphate Ludlamite was first discovered in Wheal Jane at Baldhu, close to the city of Truro in Cornwall, making this its type locality. It is one of those “must have” Cornish species and Wheal Jane has produced very fine specimens on both Quartz and Siderite. This small cabinet specimen (possibly a large miniature) has a rich, 24 x 10 mm area containing well-crystallised, translucent, apple green Ludlamite sitting on tan-coloured, terminated Quartz crystals. These line a shallow 3.5 x 3 cm vug in a flat block of Quartz veinstone. The Ludlamite crystals measure up to about 8 mm long. It’s a really fine example of this relatively rare species, accompanied with a Mike Brooke Collection label and Arnold Fisher Minerals stock label.
