One to two millimetre spheres of delicate blue, green and cream Hemimorphite line surfaces and shallow vugs in a highly porous Quartz veinstone from Old Glencrieff vein at Wanlockhead, Dumfries & Galloway (formerly Dumfriesshire), Scotland. The Leadhills-Wanlockhead orefield in south west Scotland is one of the classic mineralogical areas in the British Isles with almost 110 recorded minerals and type locality to ten species. The Hemimorphite, a zinc silicate, forms a drusy botryoidal surface of almost perfect spheres, principally in colours grading from snow white to rich powder-sky blue. In one small area, an outer shell of creamy white Hemimorphite has broken away revealing inner spheres of delicate peppermint green. A lovely Hemimorphite from Old Glencrieff vein, Wanlockhead.
