From the Mike Brooke Collection, Mike had many good contacts at Geevor mine while it was still in operation and consequently built a very fine suite of specimens from here. This certainly is the case with this Carbonate-rich Fluorapatite, the variety perhaps better known as Francolite, although this is a name seemingly now out of favour. The Fluorapatite forms splendid, thick-set tabular hexagonal crystals all with rounded and deeply striated faces, with very much a cogwheel appearance. They are of a superb translucent burnt barely sugar deep orange with a dusting of mid-sage green Chlorite. The Fluorapatite covers a Quartz veinstone matrix which, across its base, has many patches of Amethystine Quartz. A really terrific example of Carbonate-rich Fluorapatite from Geevor. The specimen is accompanied by Mike Brooke and J.P. Gliddon Collection labels.
