This splendid blue and red Baryte crystal, partly encrusted with creamy Dolomite crystals, is from the iron mines around Frizington in the West Cumberland Iron Field, now the county of Cumbria. Ex. the Mike Brooke Collection, the asymmetric, chisel-terminated ,ex. matrix crystal exudes west Cumbria and is a great aesthetic and good representative example. The Baryte crystal measures 9.5 cm long and grades from opaque teal blue to gemmy teal through one side of the termination. The face of this same side is tinged deep blood red by Hematite and displays good zoning. The Baryte’s entire surface is glassy and lustrous, making a very fine display specimen.
