The Blister Copper variety of Chalcopyrite will forever be associated with some of the finest Cornish mines. This rich specimen is from Wheal Bassett at Carn Brea, Illogan, between Camborne and Redruth. The Chalcopyrite forms a gently undulating surface punctuated by small botryoidal mounds, so forming its blistered appearance. It has a warty look, like that of a toad’s back, but in metallic shades of golden brass, darkened by a slightly sooty-black patina. The matrix is a mixture of granular Quartz and semi-pisolitic Chalcopyrite (concretionary grains). This specimen is ex. the collections of Mike Brooke and the late Trevor Bridges.
