Particularly well formed crystals of Quartz from the Lanterdan quarry at Tintagel in Cornwall, a former slate quarry. The quarry was developed in the Upper Delabole Slate member and was reputed to be one of the deepest quarries in Cornwall and, in its earlier days, the world. The quarry is thought to have been in operation for about 1,000 years. Areas in the slates are cut by veins of Quartz with Albite. This particular specimen of Quartz displays a major crystal measuring to 10 cm tall with other Quartz crystals in parallel alignment. The Quartz crystals are sharply terminated, very lustrous and grade from gemmy colourless to translucent white. These are large crystals of Quartz from Lanterdan quarry and are a superb example. This specimen was collected by Nick Talbot and P. Seymour on 1st March 1989 and is accompanied with the collection label of the late N.P. Talbot (No. 633). Many people reading this will remember the famous auction of Nick’s collection back in 2003.
