An uncommon specimen of Baryte from Wheal Mary Ann, Menheniot, Cornwall. Although Baryte is recorded in several old publications from this mine, it has never been abundant, therefore few specimens appear on the market or in collections. This specimen displays intergrown thick tabular crystals measuring to an average of 2 cm and as large as 3 cm, of white to tinted yellow with a bright glassy lustre. The Baryte crystals are partly overgrown by metallic light golden Pyrite and colourless Quartz crystals and cover a typical yet classic Wheal Mary Ann matrix of zingy lemon yellow Fluorite cubes to almost 4 cm on edge. Save for one beautiful, semi-transparent cube hiding beneath the Baryte at one side, the Fluorite crystals are very much incomplete, yet remain a lovely example of the wonderful Fluorite this mine is famous for.
