A handsome, hedgehog-like display of gemmy prismatic Quartz Amethyst crystals preferentially overgrown with Calcite from the Gyöngyösoroszi mining area in the Mátra Mountains of Hungary. Lustrous glassy lilac Amethyst crystals to 1.6 cm tall form a shallow mound over a matrix of massive, mixed lilac and white Quartz. The Amethyst crystals are richly coated from one direction with 2 to 4 mm translucent colourless to milky Calcite crystals of pointed scalenohedral or ‘dog tooth’ habit. A fine Amethyst of good colour from Gyöngyösoroszi in Hungary, made all the more aesthetic by the dusting of Calcite.
