A fine, very rich small cabinet specimen of translucent white Alstonite from its type locality at Brownley Hill mine at Nenthead in Cumbria. Excellent steeply hexagonal pyramidal crystals of Alstonite measure on average to 7 mm at various orientations on an altered Witherite matrix. Alstonite is a rare double carbonate of calcium and barium and is one of those species with two type localities, its other being the Fallowfield mine near Acomb, just north of Hexham, in Northumberland. A magnificent classic specimen from the Brownley Hill mine.
