Well-formed barrel habit crystals of burnt toffee orange Campylite, the phosphatian variety of Mimetite, measuring to 0.6 cm, pervade a matrix of botryoidal, sooty black to dark grey manganese oxide.  From the world-famous Dry Gill mine in the Caldbeck Fells of Cumbria, England, the Campylite has a slightly glistening waxy lustre which contrasts nicely against the dark matrix.  This small miniature features on the cover of Lapis No. 3, March 1997.
