A magnificent specimen of Chalcocite from the St. Ives Consolidated Mines, Cornwall. Metallic dark grey to black lustrous platy crystals of Chalcocite measuring to 1.9 cm are composed of a multitude of smaller crystals forming intergrown rosettes on a matrix of Quartz with iridescent purple to maroon Bornite. This large miniature/small cabinet specimen comes with a fine pedigree of labels including Louis Stadtmüller, Clarence S. Bement and the American Museum of Natural History before passing to more contemporary dealer-collectors. The Stadtmüller label is more a certificate than a label, measuring 20.5 x 13 cm, the like of which I have never seen before.
