A characteristic specimen of Malachite-Azurite impregnation in a conglomerate matrix from Engine Vein mine, Alderley Edge in north Cheshire, England. The Alderley Edges copper mines were worked during the Bronze Age and many mining artifacts from this period, as well as the Roman period and the Middle Ages, have been discovered in the complex labyrinth of tunnels and stopes underlaying this picturesque area. Light peppermint green Malachite, sky blue Azurite and minor white micro-crystalline Cerussite richly line and infill the interstitial pore space of a sandstone-supported conglomerate, stratigraphically termed the Engine Vein Conglomerate Member (EVCM) of Triassic age. This fascinating and unusual specimen is accompanied by two previous collector’s labels. Please note the dimensions provided are measured on the longest dimensions (i.e. diagonals) rather than the edges. By edge, it measures 8 x 7 cm.
