Marcasite
ID: CC7573
A particularly fine, large and incredibly aesthetic specimen of superbly crystallised Marcasite from the Vintířov lignite mining area in the Czech Republic. With the severe risk of sounding like the old cliché, this really is the best Marcasite I have ever handled; it is truly stunning and remarkable. This small cabinet specimen displays excellent serrated-edged, sawtooth habit twinning, equally impressive viewed from either front or back (although it does not really have a ‘back’). The overall form is that of an arrow with horizontal point sides of either arrows or saw teeth; take you pick. The specimen measures 9.8 cm long and also has Marcasite twins developed out from the spine of the parent crystal, adding a three-dimensional structure to the specimen. It is a remarkable Marcasite; mineralogically fascinating and aesthetically beguiling.
