This cabinet specimen of Fluorite with Galena coated with Hydrocerussite is from the Hailstorm Pocket in Lady Annabella mine, Eastgate, Weardale, County Durham, England, so called because of the hailstone-like white Hydrocerussite coated Galena crystals.  Hydrocerussite is an uncommon mineral throughout Weardale.  The Galena and Hydrocerussite is prevalent with an uninterrupted band of crystals from top to bottom, or side to side, depending how you display it.  The specimen is particularly striking because of the pure white coverage of Hydrocerussite, one of the richest specimens encountered in this pocket.  The Galena forms equant cuboctahedral crystals up to 2.5 cm across and typically of 1.5 cm.  Interpenetrant twinned crystals of blackberry purple Fluorite nestle either side of the Galena.  The Fluorite at one side, once backlit, becomes predominantly pale sea green.  The Fluorite has an intense purple daylight fluorescence and under LWUV fluoresces bright lavender.  Because the Hydrocerussite does not fluoresce, the Fluorite looks all the more striking when fluorescing divided into two haves by the Hydrocerussite.
