A striking and aesthetic old-time specimen of Chrysocolla, forming a rich botryoidal crust over a matrix of Quartz, Goethite and Limonite.  From Rheinbreitbach in the municipality of Linz am Rhein, Germany, the Chrysocolla forms bubbly botryoidal druses of intense turquoise, streaked with paler light turquoise and occasional patches of leaf-green.  Examination of the specimens shows the Chrysocolla to be a crust covering a underlying botryoidal layer of Goethite.
Ex. the Mineral Collection of Archduke Stephan Franz Viktor of Hungary (1817 to 1867), with a historic Archduke (Erzherzog) Stephan label incorporating his coat of arms.  This large label measures 9.8 x 8.1 cm and is complete (untrimmed) and is numbered 144/41.  A small label bearing this same number is glued beneath the specimen.  The specimen is labelled “Malachite” despite being the correct label for this specimen (both 144/41).  Obviously the specimen was thought to be Malachite when it was labelled, but is fact Chrysocolla.
