A fascinating set of four loose crystals of Malachite coating Cuprite from the classic locality of Chessy-les-Mines at Le Bois d’Oingt in France, the type locality for Azurite. Two crystals are twelve-sided (dodecahedrons) and two eight-sided (octahedrons) and all are completely coated in a layer of emerald leaf-green, semi-lustrous Malachite. All four specimens are markedly different forms of the Cuprite crystals present at this locality. One is a regular dodecahedron; the other dodecahedron has some modified edges with developing triangular faces; one octahedral crystal has eight nicely developed hopper faces and the other pyramidal growth on each face (opposite to the hopper form). An interesting selection of these various forms of Malachite-coated Cuprite.
