Schorl Tourmaline
ID:
CC8673
An intergrown group of opaque, lustrous jet-black Schorl Tourmaline crystals to 2.5 cm from the classic locality of Woolley Farm near Bovey Tracey, northwest of Newton Abbot, Devon. None of the Schorl crystals are complete, but most display many good and lustrous terminated faces. Some very minor Feldspar is attached, plus two 1 to 2 mm creamy Fluorapatite crystals. This specimen was most likely collected a little prior to 1817 when a near-surface pegmatite pocket was unearthed on the farm. Devon classics such as Wavellite and Cacoxenite may be highly prized by many a dedicated Devonian collector, but there is always room for just one more Woolley Farm Schorl in your collection!
