A large cabinet sized display double-terminated Quartz, variety “Amethyst” measuring 16.1 cm from the Goboboseb Mountains in Brandberg Area, Erongo Region, Namibia.  Although labelled as the Goboboseb Mountains, the specific locality is most likely the quarries at Tafelkop where the basalt pockets are mined for mineral specimens. The outer prism faces and terminations are of colourless Quartz, which progressively intensifies to a core of rich amethystine purple. The terminations, whose faces display stepped triangular “windows”, contain layered buff-tan clay inclusions. Midway along this crystal, a similarly terminated 4.5 cm Quartz crystal protrudes at almost 90 degrees. A spectacular example of Quartz from this remote, but classic, locality.
