A heavy block of dark red and black matrix is richly encrusted with deep burgundy red Almandine Garnets to 1.1 cm diameter. This fine small cabinet specimen is from Monteneve mine in the Passeier Valley of far northern Italy, only about 7 km from the Austrian border. This is an old time specimen is attested by its accompanying old handwritten label. The Almandine forms equant multifaced crystals which appear mainly opaque, yet where light can enter the thinner prism edges, the crystals become translucent, clove tinted wine red. A delightful Almandine from Italy.
