Beryl var. Aquamarine
ID:
CC8912
An unusual flattened hexagonal Beryl crystal of the variety Aquamarine from Marambaia in the Jequitinhonha Valley of Minas Gerais in Brazil. An off-matrix specimen, the prism faces are sub-lustrous with a slightly waxy appearance and stepped growth structures, while maintaining a very smooth surface. The crystal has a most aesthetic and complex termination, with concave hopper-type triangular pitting. The Beryl is a beautiful intense sky-blue, the intensity of which changes internally due to vertically orientated flaws which surround very transparent gemmy zones. A splendid Aquamarine crystal from both crystallographic and aesthetic perspectives.
