A cabinet specimen of massive, powdery extensive areas of carmine, cochineal and orange-red Cinnabar pervade a vuggy, dark rusty-brown Goethite matrix from Landsberg in the Rhineland-Palatinate of Germany. I have examined the specimen carefully and can see not visible sign of Native Mercury, yet this may manifest due to expansion in a hotter room or climate. From the weight of the specimen you can readily tell it contains a substance of high density; in the case of mercury, 13.5 g/cm3 or 13.5 times the weight of an equivalent volume of water. The specimen comes with an old Italian label written in exquisite handwriting. Remember to always wash your hands after handling Cinnabar as it is mercury sulphide.
