A very rich specimen of 'Jack Straw' Cerussite from a very seldom seen location at the Stanhopeburn mine in Weardale. The Cerussite forms a dense interlocking mass of rod-like prismatic crystals to 3.4 cm long and are typically striated along their length. The colour is white with a silky lustre. A small amount of Mn-Fe oxide adheres to the base of the specimen.  A very fine rich example of Cerussite from the Stanhopeburn mine that was worked on and off between 1830 (for lead) and 1980; towards the end working for Fluorite.  This excellent example is accompanied by a Sir Arthur Russell hand-written label.  It records the specimen was collected from Swan Vein in 1913.
