ID: CC985

A very rich specimen of 'Jack Straw' Cerussite from a very seldom seen location at the Stanhopeburn Mine, Weardale. The Cerussite forms a dense interlocking mass of rod-like prismatic crystals to 3.4cm long, and are typically striated along their length. The colour is white with a silky luster. A small amount of Mn-Fe oxide adheres to the 'bottom' of the specimen. A very fine rich example of Cerussite from the Stanhopeburn Mine that has been worked on and off between 1830 (for Lead) and 1980, in the last working for Fluorite.
