An excellent specimen of Ruby from the metamorphic Carbonate rock deposits of the Hunza Valley, Pakistan. The Ruby crystals stands to 4.4cm tall in high relief from the coarsely crystalline Carbonate rock matrix. The crystal displays a tapering form with a flat pinacoid termination. Striations occur on all the faces, and twinning planes are seen diagonally through the crystal, defined by the varied pink colour zones. The Carbonate rock is a translucent mottled white, with inclusions of a bronzy brown mica (possibly Phlogopite). A fine specimen of Ruby with a large crystal from this gem rich country.
