Defernite

ID: CC1875

A very rare complex Calcium Carbonate Silicate with Hydroxide and Chloride. Originally described from a single location in Turkey. World class specimens were later found in the Kombat Mine, Namibia. The specimen we have displays characteristic crystal sections measuring to 2cm long. Crystals of Defernite are seen richly encased in a black crystalline granular Hematite, with minor Calcite. The Defernite has two colours easily seen with a light tan-brown opaque colour, and as deep translucent red brown crystal sections. A rich specimen of a rare species.
