Elbaite Tourmaline

ID: CC2923

A prime example of a Blue Cap Elbaite Tourmaline from the Afghanistan area of Dara-i-Pech. The single crystal of Elbaite displays a large pinacoid, with lustrous striated prism faces. The crystal shows extensive colour band zoning parallel to the pinacoid face. Starting at the base with black then pale lilac, a band of pastel blue then light sea green, passing to colourless with flecks of blue, and finally a classic deep blue cap. A small area of Mica is seen at the base of the specimen on one side. A great specimen from the area.
