Crystals of Galena from the Tsumeb Mine have never been abundant. The specimen we have shows relatively large crystals for the location, measuring to 2.5cm. The Galena crystals are the cube habit with some corners modified by the octahedron. The crystals have undergone natural etching in the ore-body, resulting in hollow interiors to some of the cubes. The Galena displays the slightly metallic iridescence imprinted on the metallic grey colour. The Galena has scattered here and there white lenticular crystals of Calcite, small rhombs of Dolomite, and the odd crystal of gemmy yellow of Mimetite. The matrix is a mixture of probable Tennantite with Galena.
