A very characteristic specimen from the oxidation zone of the Great Orme Mine, Llandudno, Wales. A cavity in Dolomite is lined with saddle habit crystals of the same mineral. Within the cavity are what were once Chalcopyrite crystals measuring to around 4mm. The crystals of Chalcopyrite have been oxidized to red-brown Goethite, and then coated by minute sparkling crystals of green Malachite. Fairly recent archaeological excavation of the site has revealed that the mine was probably worked in the late bronze age.
